We're here to serve!

Justin & Alexis Black

We are both former foster youth from Detroit and Flint Michigan. Our history consists of experiencing homelessness and overcoming difficult beginnings. We utilized the funds from our twelve-time award-winning, bestselling novel, Redefining Normal: How Two Foster Kids Beat The Odds and Discovered Healing, Happiness and Love, to purchase our first home in December 2020, a year in which numerous students in the foster care system began to experience homelessness due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We wanted to provide housing to others with housing insecurity being a part of both of our journeys in child welfare.

We’ve been privileged enough to travel to over 30 different countries during our collegiate career to study abroad and utilize apps such as Airbnb in countries like Japan, South Africa, Rwanda, and numerous others countries. Given our travel experiences, we felt it was necessary to accommodate travelers coming to Kalamazoo Michigan, and ensure that they have a welcoming stay that they could enjoy.

As we expand our companies to other properties in the Kalamazoo area, we are focused on igniting strategic business relationships. This will consist of opportunities for minority owners, Black-owned businesses, and local students.

We are full-time authors, speakers, business owners, and part of the Forbes Next 1000 class of 2021 and new parents!. With our company, MI Black House, we hope to provide high-quality accommodations to the Kalamazoo and Battle Creek areas.
